OrthoHelix is a medical device company developing a comprehensive line of implants and instruments for use in small bone reconstructive surgery.
Employees: 60
Founded: 2004
Headquarters: Medina, Ohio
Challenge:
Cost-effectively manage the rapidly-changing IT needs of a high-growth company with no internal IT staff.
Solution:
CRU managed IT services provide the infrastructure expertise, network management and support required to keep the OrthoHelix network running efficiently.
Results:
As OrthoHelix has grown from 25 employees in 2009 to 60 employees in 2011, CRU continues to deliver the necessary array of services more cost-effectively than hiring in-house IT staff.
In the spring of 2009, OrthoHelix had outgrown their original IT infrastructure because of the company’s expansive growth. With a planned move to a new office and sophisticated technology needs, they sought an IT firm that could design and manage their new network, and support their anticipated growth in the coming years.
“CRU was very involved in our move to Medina in 2009,” says Jim Bragg, Director of Regulatory Affairs/Quality Assurance at OrthoHelix. “We added 3,000 square feet to our office space and CRU designed the expanded network with room to grow, including servers and Internet connectivity, and installed everything. The network has supported our growth because CRU helped us plan correctly at the beginning.”
“CRU is very responsive. They work both to mitigate issues quickly and are proactive in helping our growth and supporting our system needs,” Jim continues. “Jim Kerr, CRU President, has even helped us when we had an issue with another vendor. This is a bonus for us where CRU is willing to support us beyond just IT needs and have often helped us work through these issues to resolution.”
From a planning perspective, CRU makes sure its clients have options when addressing IT needs. “The management at CRU always offers a variety of solutions,” Jim says. “They don’t try to sell us on only one choice. And, with the range of expertise on CRU’s tech staff, they have been more cost-effective than hiring in-house IT staff. “
In 2011, OrthoHelix was awarded its second Ohio Third Frontier Grant, named to the Weatherhead 100, and CFO Cameron Rubino was awarded the Crain’s Cleveland CFO of the Year in the medium private company category. OrthoHelix’s success is dependent on technology and with the support of CRU, has been able to continue to achieve success.
